How do I hook my computer up to my HDTV?

How can we hook up our HDTV to our computer?

  • Problem is our tv is across the room from our computer...I'm aware we can use the tv as a monitor. We've attempted this before but gave up when we couldn't find a cable long enough. We're debating canceling our satellite service and watching shows via internet, netflix, and hulu plus but some of our shows aren't available through our xbox 360 so how can we watch shows on our computer through our tv? Does anyone know a link for the type of cable we need?

  • Answer:

Grab something like a WD TV. That will do all of what you want- and you don't have to use your computer to watch TV with it because it's a stand-alone system. You do need to connect it to your router, though. Unless you can find some Category 5/6 cable and are willing to wire it yourself, I'd suggest powerline networking. You can find a kit at the link below. That uses the 120V lines in your house to transmit data at a good speed- it just converts the Ethernet interface to powerline and back again at your router (if you don't have one, get one). After that, it should be smooth sailing. Just keep your computer on when you want to look at photos/videos/music stored on your machine.
