How can I change my IP address?

  • I am living in Northern Ireland and have a BT homehub wireless router. I am trying to watch a programme shown on RTE (An Irish channel) on my laptop through their catch up service which is available for viewers in the south and the north only. I couldn't access the show so looked at their faq's and seen something about ip address and when I checked my ip address a liverpool location comes up which would explain why I cannot access the show. Can anyone tell me how to change my ip address, preferrably to a southern ip address as I can access the show live if I have a southern ip and watch a repeat online if I just have a northern ip. Any help would be gratefully appreciated

    Proxy Servers are they only way, well that and "Online Proxy Servers", but I doubt you'll find one of those for Ireland

Yes you may use some public proxy servers to get around it but be prepared to get your accounts hacked. If you don't know what I'm saying, read this: http://www.personalvpn.org/danger_proxy_servers.htm

Problem is that your ISP is issuing an IP address from a UK wide pool RTE (the national broadcaster in (the Republic of) Ireland) - have a page which explains to contact your provider and request an IP address that identifies you as being in Northern Ireland - look for the section starting "I am located in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland and cannot access Island of Ireland content in the GAA Player service. What should I do?" I'd involve your local MP too - especially if s/he is in Sinn Fein so they can encourage ;-) Apart from this, as others have suggested, it's pay for a proxy time
