To professional movie makers and video editors?

Hello, I want to make a project based on a movie for my Sociology teacher, but I don't have very much experience video editing but I can still make it, I only need tips and tricks from you guys about everything in video editing. I'm going to include videos from Movies like Zeitgeist and The Arrivals, so please advice me with tips and tricks, and software to use, I decided to use Windows Movie Maker to make it simple. Thank you, besides another question: I want to include Arabic subtitles in the movie, I've used AVIADDXSUB to stick the subtitles in the movie, will the that work in Windows Movie Maker after the final output/production ? Will the subtitles show ? Please I need your help, best answer will go to the most rational suggestions and explanations.
