Computer problems...?

Computer problems [freezes on startup]?

  • My computer has been freezing on start up for the past week. [I am on someone elses computer right now to access the internet] I can only use my computer through safe mode [severely limiting] I have tried EVERYTHING. I defragged my computer, did a disc cleanup, tried restarting it many times, tried waiting for my computer to eventually start up [waited hours on end and still it was froze] I tried deleting my history, cookies, and temp. internt files....I even tried a system restore like 3 different times. Dating my computer back to a week before I was having these problems, not only did this not help it kinda made things worse....My computer now wont even get past the welcome screen to show my icons before it freezes. It used to freeze after loading some of my icons but now it freezes at the welcome sign. No error messages are popping up...no virus alerts or messages ...nothing..my mouse works for a few seconds [I can move it around for a few seconds], then BAM it stops working. im left with a welcome screen to stare at. I have performed AVG scans and windows defender scans. Windows defender scan says that my computer is running fine and AVG reported one trojan horse but I had set the scan to move any viruses etc. to my vault. I had also ran a program I downloaded called R_KILL or something, thats what it shows up as on my desktop and it eliminates all possible malware on my computer and it worked last time so I dont see why it wouldnt work now. So I even ran that through safe mode and it didnt seem to do any help. Computer was still frozen when I tried restarting it. I tried control alt. delete as well and that didnt work while my compter was frozen...so my keyboard and mouse are generally rendered useless after the comp. freezes at the welcome sign. I have had this exact problem before in the past and after a few days my comp. was working just fine again and all I really did was go into safe mode, ran de-frag, disc cleanup, and deleted temp. internet fies, history, and cookies, and scanned my computer through windows defender. Not sure or not whather that is what fixed it or not but after a few days it started working good again. [this was like a month ago or so] and now I have tried all that at least three times and then some more stuff and im getting NOWHERE. I have even tried deleting programs from my computer cuz maybe thought I had too much on my comp and it was being bogged down and even that didnt help. I have read similar posts online about computer problems and I heard something about this might be a registry problem or something? if so what do I do to fix that? what can I do?I cannot download ANYTHING from the internet so if youre gonna recommend that to me I cannot do that because I cannot access the internet right now. I can only operate through safe mode. If it is a registry problem or w/e what can I do? how do I do it? will I need to buy something to fix my computer? Could this be a virus? is this common? All help is GREATLY appreciated.

Something to consider is hardware. If your computer isn't getting enough voltage then this would definitely cause freezing. Your power supply may need replacing, preferably a higher wattage, as the PSU that comes with the computer would only meet minimal requirements, especially if you've added any hardware, i.e. video card, ram, etc. Also check all fans, as well as making sure all connections inside CPU are secure.

You can not clean this virus with AVG. I guess the virus have modified your Windows registry for personal purposes. You should correct and fix Windows registry then run AVG in safe mode. Download registry repair tool here http://www.keep-pc-clean.com/

It must be hardware problem. You may try to get Ubuntu CD and boot your computer from that CD. See if your computer still working. You can surf the net, doing some office applications. You can backup your important files to other media as well. You can check you harddisk if it had any problem. That all can be done from Ubuntu CD. Note: If you still can't run your computer with Ubuntu CD, you must check your hardware. You might have problem with your memory card, or harddisk, or your motherboard. In Ubuntu CD, there is a tool to test your memory card if they work properly. If you can't download and burn the CD, you can go to school or any computer person you know, and you can borrow the cd from him/her. Don't worry, there is no "pirated" Ubuntu. It is totally free.
