My newly built computer blue screens every time it gets to the loading screen?
-
Hey, I just built my new computer and I replaced absolutely everything apart from the HDD because I'm waiting for my new one to get here so I can install windows 7 on it. The old HDD is running windows XP and every time I turn it on it goes through everything gets to the loading screen for the XP and then just blue screens. I can't think what the problem is and I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix it because I wish to get some data and files off that HDD before I throw it away. Thanks!

I had that problem. It's a setting in the bios that uses different controllers for the hard drive. My computer hardware ran Vista and Windows 7, but XP wouldn't work. After I changed it, the drive booted but was still a bit buggy. I'd say wait until you get the new hard drive, install the new OS on the new drive, then connect the old hard drive and transfer files when they're both connected.
You can use Puppy Linux and a USB drive to recover files from an infected PC. Just be careful not to copy any infected files to the USB drive ;) http://puppylinux.org/
Probably drivers.... The data should be fine though. I would just wait until you get W7 and a New HDD then hook that one up to copy you're files... And that's what I meant hook it up using a USB drive case and scan it! Then copy over the clean files! Don't copy over any Office docs with Macros (They are probably infected) Office can remove macros (Google that) Also DO NOT copy any executable files (.exe, .msi ect;) Good luck!
