How much less energy does a computer use on sleep?

Do computer fonts and graphics use up energy? Does emailing information use up energy?

  • For example, font and graphics on a printed book use up ink, which is a resourse and costs money. Mailing a physical letter uses up the Mailman's gasoline and uses resources and costs money. Does text on a computer screen use up energy or resources? Does sending an email use up energy as the information is pulsing thru the wires?

  • Answer:

Yes the more stuff to display (or send) the more energy consumed as everything is ones and zeros and these are created by pulses of electricity. The more you send the more ones and zeros required and the more electricity used Actually the ones use up more energy than the zeros so the letter A will take more energy than the letter C (1000001 compared to 1000011)
