How do I get rid of quarantined files on my computer?

How Do I Get All My Important Files Off My Computer Before Re-Formatting My Hard Drive?

  • My computer keeps restarting and I can't get it to stop. So, I'm going to re-format my hard drive, but I have a lot if files I don't want to lose. How do I save those files? I have external hard drives, but I can't get to my files because of the constant restarting, so it's impossible to transfer all the files to the external. What do I buy and/or download to save these files? Someone mentioned something about Linux and burning it to a cd, but he didnt explain. Please help, and explain how to save the files!

Keeping restarting sounds like a hardware issue. (which re-formating is unlikely to fix). If you can boot from a live CD and have it not restart it probably isn't hardware, but if the live CD reboots it's hardware. I would check to make sure all the fans are working and the heat sinks are clean. If such a case you can always remove the hard drive and hook it to another computer to extract data. As for the specific distro, just about anything current will work. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto FYI: Ubuntu mounts foreign partitions under /media.

Boot with a CD and copy your C drive to an external hard drive... You can also try to go to a restore point before it started doing this. When you turn it on start hitting F2 or F10 and maybe it will go into setup or restore and pick a restore point. If this works, you can then copy your important files before it happens again...

Try following the "Hard Drive Recovery Guide for Non-Geeks" It will guide you through some Linux Live CD's, step by step, using plain language. Here is the url: http://www.myfixlog.com/fix.php?fid=14
