What do I do if someone changed my email password?

Someone hacked into my parents email account and changed the password, how do I fix this problem?

  • They use hotmail for their email. i got an email from my dad saying he was in some country and needed money but the thing is it wasn't actually from my dad it was from whoever hacked into their hotmail account and that same person changed the password b/c they can no longer sign in. they have two different options to fix it: 1. Use my location information and secret answer to verify my identity. 2. send password reset instructions to me in email. for number 1 the hacker changed the secret answer question and number 2 says i don't need to know the password to do this but then tells me i need to sign in, but how can i sign in if i don't know the password. help me help them.

Oct 7, 2009, News Report Thousands of Hotmail user names and passwords were hacked and posted in October on www.pastebin.com. The post has since been removed. While Microsoft -- Hotmail's owner -- works to aid the afflicted users, the list of passwords was revealing for a variety of reasons. http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/technology/security/hotmail-hacks-easy-as-123456-20091008-go3f.html http://www.govtech.com/gt/articles/729935

make a new email. sorry

Contact Hotmail, that is all you can do.

that account has been compromised, inform hot-mail, and then forget about using that account. Go to www.gmx.com open a new account for them and then have them send emails to their friends telling them the old account is bad. Most likely the account was not hacked, hot-mail and other online email system have pretty good security, a more common cause of this is your parents were not as careful with their passwords as they should be. The other cause would be a virus worm Trojan or key logger is on your parents computer. I would recommend getting avast anti virus and running a full system check, then go to windows live one care and run a full system check there, then get malware bytes and run a full system check again. then get Spybot search and destroy and run that, then also get adaware and run that.. do all of this before creating a new email account.
