How do I cut out an image using Gimp?

How do you cut out part of a photo using GIMP?

• I want to cut out and paste part of a picture into another. I use GIMP and I have tried all i can. And i cant do it by tracing the object, because i just don't have a steady hand. HELP?!??!

  You don't need a steady hand. Just zoom in on the image as you are doing your selection, then press the space bar and move the mouse to move around the image, it's much easier but takes a little longer. Another way to do your selection is to learn how to use the pen tool to make a path - which you can edit/move or bend to the curves of the image, then after you've done it and got it perfect, you can right click the path and choose Path to Selection.
