How do I read an ETD extension file?

I can't delete a file on my external hard drive?

  • I can't delete a file on my external hard drive. When I try to delete the file (it is the only file left on the drive) I get an error message: "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." If I try to rename the file I get "cannot rename file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." The file is named USBC and when I go to folder options to show the file extension; there is none. Properties says - Type of file: File, Size: 0 bytes; Opens with, Created, Modified, Accessed and Attributes are all blank. I've tried FileHippo @ http://filehippo.com/download_unlocker, http://www.gibinsoft.net and others like it and none worked. I tried Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and it said that it had deleted it but it hasn't. When I tried to format the drive I got the error message: "Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formatting again." And just so you know, I've rebooted my computers many times in between attempts to remove this file. Can anyone please help?

Format E: /FS NTFS

connect the disk to another computer and try formatting it from there
