How to scan documents and put it in document folder?

Can't find documents?

  • Yesterday, my computer got hit by a virus and crashed. When I restarted it, the desktop was black with no icons on it, and the start menu (from the button on the bottom-left corner, in Windows 7) was completely empty. Literally NOTHING was there except for Microsoft Word. No "Documents" button, no "My Computer" button, no nothin'. The task bar showed that adobe, mcafee, my printer, and a few other things were running, but so was this new program called "Windows Defense" something or other that clearly wasn't legit (the name under it said "screen share.") The weird thing was, though, that I was able to open Word, and could see my documents in the Recent Docs section. But when I went to Open, my entire computer was empty. There was nothing in programs, nothing in documents but, strangely (again,) my C: drive still showed as having 43GB used... Anyway, I was able to somehow click my way to System Restore, and everything went back to the way it was--woo hoo! BUT my documents were still gone. My Documents folder still has two download folders that I use (with stuff in them,) but the actual Documents itself is empty, despite my 200+ school documents on there...also, my recent documents still show up in Recent Docs. I luckily have Clickfree Backup, and realized that I could put my documents back. I went for it, and copied them to the Documents folder, but only the ones from around last summer and before copied over; my 50+ recent ones did not. I've tried over and over again, but I Clickfree still says that everything's been copied. What is going on? This is really worrying me, as I have midterm papers on there... due Monday. Again, I've tried deleting and re-copying stuff over, and a LOT copies (basically everything from pre-August,) but the more recent docs just don't show up! I've tried going into Recent Docs in Word and doing a Save As into the Documents folder, but nothing shows up in there...even though the document is clearly SOMEWHERE, since I'm reading it right now... Are these documents there, just not showing up? How can I find out? What can I do!? Thanks so much -Adam

  • Answer:

You need to go to bleepingcomputer.com and go through their virus removal guide. You need to boot into safe mode with networking first. There are a few programs you need to download and run: (run them in order listed) Rkill, tdsskiller, malwarebytes, and unhide.exe You can find all of these on the site listed above. You can also do a search for your documents by typing in the search bar each of these microsoft word document extensions: *.wbk, *.doc, *.docx, *.asd The .wbk extension is the auto save feature and your best bet if you can't find your document using the doc or docx extensions.
