Why won't my speaker work?

Why does only one speaker work?

  • On my laptop, i wanted to have a bit louder sound. So i hooked it up to my stereo speakers and it worked for around a month. Now suddenly right hole where i plug one of the speakers in just does not work. I've swapped the speakers around, they speakers work, its just when it's plugged into the right hole it don't work. I've checked the IDT audio thing, and everything seems to be ok :S. Any ideas? I have vista if that helps..

Hi There, My thought is that the impedance of your stereo speaker was too low which pulled more current through the sound circuit than it was designed for and probably burned out that channel. Your best bet now is to buy a proper sound card that is designed for the extra current. Just plug the card into a PCI slot and use the card's ports to plug in your speakers. Read the information for correct installation and which speakers will work. If you are not sure ask someone who is experienced. Below is a link for a sound card from Tiger Direct that should work. Hope this helps, Al

Call best buy or check the sound controls....

Broken wire? Broken jack (the hole)? Blown amplifier on one channel of the sound card? There are a few possibilities, but nothing we can check from here, or give you instructions to check (you have to take the laptop apart).

hhhmmm reinstall sound driver?
