How to reset the BIOS password without opening my PC up (More info on subject)?
-
I have recently installed Ubuntu (Linux) 11.10 on my PC due to Windows 7 corrupting, and I just wanted to have a new OS for a change. Now I don't have a problem with Ubuntu, but I wish to install Windows XP creating a dual-boot (provided with my own disc). I have partitioned a section on my 1T HDD (500gb for each OS) but I get a BSOD error whenever my new disc loads the drivers up (0xA5 error) and it suggests i change my SATA mode from AHCI to IDE from the BIOS menu, but I placed a password that i cannot remember on the menu you see :/ So basically I want to reset the menu, but its not as easy as you think, my PC is one of those "HP Pavilion All in One" desktops, which is in this case, impossible to open to remove the CMOS battery. My BIOS menu built is from "Phoenix". I have tried all the backdoor passwords, and trust me, I doubt any other suggestions would work either, due to this PC being a new model. So either re-installing the BIOS or resetting the password, I don't care what it is, as long as I can get the job done. I did attempt to take apart my PC, when i came across something located under the RAM cards, 2 metal connectors that have text next to them saying "Reset CMOS, and Reset password". I have taken photos from my phone to show you guys what it looks like, and if this is a possible way to reset the password. Answer:
Remove a laptop is quite complex and long, and reset the password using the jumpers is really a very risky operation plays: the slightest mistake is enough to create a short circuit that could disable your computer. The best thing would be to obtain the master password to log back into the bios. On the site that tells you you can get it for free complilando the form at the bottom with a few required data.

Removing BIOS battery is the only perfect way to reset your password.
Dear Geek
I would expect that bridging those will clear the CMOS and passwords as they're labelled. Anyway, changing the hard drive controller to IDE will impact performance. What you really need to do is to find the textmode version of the driver for your SATA hard drive interface and then use a program called nLite to make a new copy of your XP setup CD that has the SATA drivers integrated into it. This will stop the installer from failing with a BSOD and also allow the hard drive interface to work in its best mode. nLite: http://www.nliteos.com/
