Check out these Microsoft Knowledge Base articles. My suggestion would be to just reinstall Vista. You can also try to restore to a previous state, but I find that doesn't always work well in situations like yours.

1) Batteries last 18-24 months. You need a new one. 2) Look at how much RAM you have - Control Panel/System - look at Memory (RAM). You should have at least 2GB - anything less and Vista crawls. (That's memory, yes. That's where programs run, and Vista needs lots of it. A dv6000 is an XP computer - they should never have sold it with Vista.) You can probably upgrade it to 2GB, if it isn't already there, for not too much money. 3) There's nothing you can do about your graphics card - it's a business-class card. It'll do movies, but may be slow if you watch them full screen. (The larger the picture, the more graphics power you need.) It won't be good enough for most games, except at the VERY lowest settings (settings you won't be happy with). 4) Defrag your drive. There's a defragmentation program in Vista, but there are better ones for free on the web. You should also clean your registry (CCleaner) and defragment it (free programs on the web, again). See if doing those things makes it work better.

use this photo to find your system info - Video card-ram etc. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2460/3749041584_d961d5ccf8_o.png if your RAM is just 512 MB then running vista ofcourse will show very slowdown. you've not told which antivirus are you using? consider scanning again with spybot search and destroy (free) also use CCleaner to fix registry problem and temporary files. (which slows down the computer and other issues) --refer following
