Can i change my ip address?

  • if i call my ISP... they can change my ip address right? i have Frontier broadband... i used to have epix... epix was the name of frontier before it changed to frontier. when i switched to frontier, i kept the same ip address and host name... which includes the words "epix.net". the reason i am asking is because i used to have access to ESPN 360. but when ESPN changed their policy... they didnt include epix. now i do not have access to ESPN 360 anymore. i think the reason is because my host name still has epix in it and i still have an epix ip address even though i am now on frontier. so if i call frontier... can they change my ip address to something that will work with eson 360?

Technically yes. Effectively no. The IP address range you can get is determined by the wire you're connected to. You can get the last octet (there are 4 octets in an IP address, separated by dots) to change, but ESPN will be working with the first 2, so that won't do you any good. ESPN excluded epix - now they're excluding frontier. Nothing you can do about it except find out why frontier isn't paying ESPN for access. Probably because you wouldn't go for the $20/month - or more - increase in your bill. there's a lot of that going on in the industry right now - content providers demanding more money for access, service providers refusing to pay, because their customers would refuse to pay the increase.

think your better off subscribing for a static ip address from your broadband supplier
