What is the difference from online and skype me on skype?

ummm...i have a skype and i put it on online all the time...well just yesterday i changed it to Skype me thingy..and then like 3 people i didnt no sended me chats trying to chat..i dont want them looking at my profile....how do i change it to privacy settings...and is there a difference from "skype me" or "Online"? pls reply quickly!!
