Will windows 95 be able to install correctly onto this laptop? I need to know for sure! 10 points!?

I have an averatec 3700 laptop with 1gb ram and 120gb hd. It had windows xp on it when I got it, but it got a virus on it and I could not do anything at all, so eventually I just used a cd to wipe the entire hd and I was just going to reinstall an os onto the clean hd. I wanted to reinstall windows xp, but I can't afford a new install of xp, so I decided to look for lower windows versions which might be cheaper. The lowest inexpensive version I could find was this windows 95 on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Windows-95-Full-Install-USB-Support-setup-Disk-/110568348979?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0 Now I asked if I would be able to install that windows 95 onto my computer correctly, without any hd issues. One person told me if I had winows xp on there before then yes I should be able to correctly install windows 95 with no issues. But another person said windows 95 is "not going to work at all (on my laptop)!" They said because the windows 95 drivers will not be compatible with my laptop, and there will be no USB support, no ethernet support, no mobo support due to the age of the OS disc if I install winows 95 So my question is, just will I REALLY be able to install windows 95 correctly onto my laptop without any hardware/driver issues, or will the drivers be incompatible meaning I will not be able to install it? I don't see how the "drivers" could be incompatible if my hd is currently clear, but I just want to know for SURE before I waste money.

Answer:
Windows 98SE was the first version with USB support. Contact the laptop manufacturer https://www.shopaveratec.com/service_technical.aspx#1 to buy a Windows XP CD. It will cost more than $5.95, but not that much more.

it would work, but you should consider windows 98 because windows 95 is really outdated and the internet may not even work on it because it's updated so much, let alone anything else you want to do.
The problem you are faced with here is driver support for Win 95. Answer is no. Driver support for that model laptop ranges from windows XP, Vista, and even support for 7. Look on the bottom side and back of the laptop, there should be a sticker with a Windows XP serial number on it, or possibly in the manuals that came with the laptop. If you have those, borrow a windows XP OEM disk from someone and enter the number on that sticker. That will solve your problem if it's there, and still be legal for you as long as you use that #. Depending on what which version of XP you get, ie. SP1, SP2, or SP3, all of the drivers for your laptop may not be on the installation disk, so few laptop drivers are :( , so you would have to download any missing drivers from the manufacturers website. http://www.trigem.com/us/support/drivers.asp
It looks like you have already been unsuccessful at what I would have suggested, which is to try linux. Maybe a different distro would work better, maybe not. You could try Linux Mint. On my new laptop I could not get MEPIS 8.0 or 8.5 to boot up successfully. The same CD's can run on my desktop computer. I did succeed at running and installing Linux Mint 9.0. If you do get Linux Mint to work, if you want to use dialup, you would need to use a broadband connection to connect to Synaptic and install KPPP.
First and foremost, do not install windows 95 or Windows 98 on the laptop. You will encounter more issues with that than trying to install XP. One of the major issues will include the update patches, and as you indicated it's likely the drivers will be not compatible as well as the USB issue. You would be better off taking the laptop to a used computer store. And asking them how much it will cost to install XP. It should cost less than $100 With regards to the virus, if you have system restore activated, a boot disc, using an anti virus scanner and firewall. Do not open unsolicited or unknown attachments, do not engauge in file sharing and have Active X turned off. This will prevent 95% of all the virus online.
