How to open a PDO file?

How do I open a file with .avi extension, with a grey description saying 'PART file'?

  • I recently received a file attachment from a close friend of mine regarding my son's scoliosis. The file is called Chi Quong - Exercises for a back, if anyone happens to know it. When I tried to open it in Windows Media Center, I wasn't really sure what to open it with. When I tried to open it in Microsoft Office Word, it prompted to select an option from the following, due to the document being locked by another user; to open a read only copy, create a local copy, or receive notification when the original copy would be available. I chose the first option. The program loaded for a little while, before prompting me to change the file's encoding. I chose the first option, (Windows), and then, as I looked through the assorted sheets, there was no English. The only thing that I could see was assorted symbols and squares. My question to you helpful and not so helpful souls is this;is there any way to open the file, or do any of you happen to know whatever this regime is enough to post it here?

  • Answer:

It sounds like you actually have a file named <name>.avi.part This usually means that the file did not completely download. You could try renaming to just <name>.avi and then opening it in a more liberal video player like VideoLAN VLC Media Player. Most likely it will only partially play if at all. You could also try to get your friend to resend the file.

You could ask your friend to re-send it or this might be the one you're looking for :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm6eoBafE3c

Helpful or not Divx player will play partial avi files. I do it all the time to preview the files before they are complete. The trick is to stop the download before attemping to open it. Divx is free Divx.com

If the file is complete just rename it with .avi extension. It will play in Windows Media Player.

Wow, confusing..is it a video or a word doc?? Windows media center is a player-just an organisation tool-that wont work The file (if word doc) will be dispaying squares and asking for encoding as it has been saved as a 2007 doc and wont open on a 2003 office verison the avi file is a video but the part file siggests that you have downloaded it (maybe an atatchment) but it haan't finished downloading yet or that software has split in into smaller parts
