Can you playback videos on a flip hd?

Can't play HD Video (Anything over 480P is jerky)?

  • Hi, I’m having some trouble with video playback on my Sony Vaio Laptop. It basically presents itself in the form of jerky video, with normal sound. It’s a relatively new issue, as my laptop never had any problems with video until a few months ago. My laptop is close to 2 year old now, and is a Dual Core 2.4ghz Centrino 2 chip, with an ATI graphics card (256 mb I believe.). Windows Vista. I actually have a full 1080 screen as well. I’ve noticed it in the following situations. 1. On Vimeo, particularly on HD videos. (I let the video buffer completely, but it doesn’t help.) 2. On Youtube when I bump up to the “HD” (720/1080) videos. (480 is pretty smooth, but if I try and watch it for any length of time, it does show signs of becoming jerky. Pausing for a few seconds, fixes it for a while. This occurs even when the video has buffered completely.) 3. Using my brand new 5Dmk2 Camera, shooting 24fps, in MOV format and viewing in Quicktime. Sound is fine, and most of the other videos I have on my laptop in various formats (WMV mostly) are fine too (Much lower res though). DVD is fine as well. I do not have a blueray player, so can’t comment there… I’ve just updated flash, and quicktime, and it hasn’t fixed things. One final twist - My GF seems to have the same issue with her Sony Vaio. (I'm 99% sure I've looked at HD video before on both laptops. Can someone please give me some insight as to whether it’s Flash, Quicktime, Hardware, Drivers, Software or some other issue that’s going on? It just seems like I’ve lost the ability to watch hi res video… Any troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Ben

1. laptops dont last forever, parts do get worn out 2. it may be filled with dust and get overheated, then forced to downclock it self to not take damage and TADA! it laggs 3. you may have virus or alot of unneeded things running in the background (when not doing anything, i mean just restarted the computer you should have 0-4% cpu usage and depending on how much ram around 600MB usage not more then that. (that is if you have 2GB ram) 4. virus programs that are running while you are trying to watch movies may cause alot of problems. 5. what browser do you use? for laptops, even better for slow/older laptops google chrome will be the lightest and fastest.

its easy, your screen is 1080p but your gfx card is only 256 mb,need at least 512mb to run smoothly or it will become jerky.Cpu is ok but also tell your ram, need at least 1gb for watching high-def videos.

I have the same problem! Granted, my computer's kind of old, but it doesn't happen when I use my mom's Macbook! :(

Buffer rates. You have described problems with streaming, not locally stored. There's your problem.
