How do I boot my computer from a disc?

How do i fix my Microsoft Windows XP computer without a boot disc?

  • My computer turns on but then after i click on my user account it doesn't work, it freezes on a blue screen that says Windows is starting up... and it stays like that for days. I tried starting it from Safe Mode and from Last Known Good Configuration and it still doesn't respond. What should I do now??

  • Answer:

You have to put in your windows installation disk. Select the option to repair windows. When that happened to me it was the only way to fix it.

If you can borrow a boot disc from somebody with just about any modern Windows version, you can boot to the recovery console without needing a key (because you are not installing the OS). From the recovery console prompt run "chkdsk /f c:" to repair errors in the file system. In the last couple years I have begun to appreciate how common NTFS file system damage is and how many Windows errors it accounts for. My estimate of the percentage of Windows installations that have trouble because of repairable errors in the file system is around 50%. I have made a practice of running chkdsk /r after every abnormal Windows shutdown. Life is so much better now!

you need to have it reformated
