How do i connect my wii to the internet?

How do I connect my Computer, Wii and Playstation3 to the internet, all at the same time?

  • I want to connect all 3 to the internet so they can all be used at the same time - I am running Windows VISTA and at the moment I have a normal modem (with broadband internet) and my internet provider said I can connect as many devices as I want but my problem is that I don't know what I need in order for it to work - I have been told I need a wireless router or WIfi (is there a difference?) and apparently I still need other conections to plug into the back of the Ps3 as well as the back of the Computer (so what is the point of the router??). I AM SO CONFUSED- so can someone please help me with what I should buy and how it all plugs in etc or what I need to do (in non-technical terms) and please as detailed as you can, also if you know costs that would be great too! THANKS VERY MUCH

  • Answer:

a router is just like a power strip for plugging in a lamp ..i.e. your modem is like the wall socket. but imagine there is only one plug. that one plug is already in your desktop computer. so you need the power strip (router) to connect more devices to the power socket(modem) a wifi router allows you to do this but wirelessly. the wii and ps3 are both wireless so it would be your best bet to get a wireless router(wifi). **wifi is the proper term for the way wireless devices connect to a router. just go to best buy and ask for a "linksys wireless g router" this is all you need to buy.. it comes with instructions on how to plug it in on a dvd. hope this helped. enJoi

Get a wireless router - it will allow multiple LAN clients (like your PC, PS3 and Wii) to share the internet connection. The PS3 and Wii both have 802.11g wifi adapters built into them. When you install the router between the modem and PC, setup the router's WiFi and then configure the Wii and PS3's wireless settings. A regular 802.11g or newer 802.11n/g router should work, but if the Wii and PS3 are very far away, the wireless may need a repeater. For routers, a Dlink DIR-625 or DIR-628 is a good start for $60 and can be bought in most stores http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/30387/96/

You need a "broadband router", or just simply a "router". A router translates requests from many computers trying to use the internet to share just the one connection. The network cables (or wifi connections, depending upon what sort of router you get) all connect to the router, then the router connects to the modem. A decent wireless router (like the Linksys WRT54G) costs about $50 or $60.

What you need is a wired / wireless router such as a netgear. http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/WirelessGModemRouter.aspx

Calm down, you can connect as many PC's or console to the internet. You'll need a router, a router make your internet connection wireless (which is called wifi). Your Wii has a wireless card built in so just connect your Wii to your router and your down and I think the PS3 has a wireless card as well. So just get yourself a router i recommend Belkin N+ Wireless.
