Why doesn't my computer play dvds?

My computer wont play DVDs or CDs anymore?

  • My Computer used to be able to play DVDs and CDs but it wont let me watch anything anymore but my CD-Drive doesnt show anymore on my computer. Could someone please give me a solution? My computer is a Gateway running windows Vista and the model number is a GT5404.

  • Answer:

Looks like a hardware problem. If you don't see your CD/DVD drive in my computer. Then you have to check power supply cable of the drive if it is loose. Better you contact a technician who can do this for you. Opening(the casing) yourself not being expert may be dangerous.

check to see if your computer detects the dvd drive. open my computer and look next to the c drive to see if your computer detects it. if it doesnt show up, run a windows update on your machine by going to www.microsoft.com try to custom your results and see if you have any updates for the dvd drive. if that doesnt work then there might be a defect on the dvd drive. drives are very cheap nowadays. you can look at : www.tigerdirect.com
