How do i make my internet faster?

  • ok i had a 384 mb computer the other day and it was kinda slow. i got two 512 mb ram sticks and now have 1024mb (the maximum amount i can get for my computer). the computer itself, is faster. the internet is still as slow as it was before though. i guess that's because internet and memory have little do do with each other, but...? in my house we have three computers. my computer is hooked up to a router and the other two get wireless connection. i'd think mine would be the fastest because it is directly connected to the router which is connected to the modem, but... no. one of the other computers are fastest (lets name it computer y and the other computer z). i think my computer isn't that good maybe because it's a 2001 computer (the operating system's new, i recently did a reformat, but the tower and i guess the thing that reads the internet are 2001). computer y is pretty new. it has like 4 gb of memory (that's one of the reasons why i thought getting more memory would improve my computer). i'm not gonna even talk about computer z because it has some problems like too cluttered, wierd messages, etc and needs a reformat. so what i want to know is why computer y's internet is like click and go but mine is a bit slow? even if the one connected to the router isn't the fastest, i'd think that all three would get the same speed? how do i make mine faster?

    you may have a little to much info stored on your computer so you should get rid of somethings that you dont use thenyou will have more room and it will be alot faster

The speed of the computer shouldn't really affect the speed of the internet. You can run this Speed test on all the computers to see if there is a difference: http://www.speedtest.net/ There's tons of supposed "speed hacks" but the only thing I found that actually makes a little difference in the time things loads on a page is FasterFox for FireFox. Also it's no longer supported but a version has been "hacked" to support the latest version of firefox.
