What is Information and Computer Science?

What is the difference between a Computer Science (A.S.) and Computer Information Systems (A.S.)?

  • I would like to attend my local junior college. I wanted to do the A.S. here and the rest online at Western Governor's University. I here that Software engineers make allot of money. I wanted something that would head me in that direction. I am in my mid-thirties and don't have a computer background. Would this be too much of a challenge for me? Here are the links to the two degree programs: Computer Science http://www.essex.edu/academics/programs/pdfs/cs.program.pdf Computer Information Systems http://www.essex.edu/academics/programs/pdfs/cis.program.pdf Thank You

  • Answer:

Computer Science focuses on programming. CIS focuses on network operation, security, and management. (Greatly) simplified: CS - Programmer CIS - Sysadmin
