Why won't my school get new f****** computers?
-
I'm a student, and my school just won't get new computers. Ours are about 7-8 years old. They're still running Windows 2K Pro with only 256 MB of RAM, and they're SO FRIGGIN SLOW!!! They take about 10 minutes to just boot up and log in, and by the time I can use Word, a good chunk of my class time is gone. How can I get my school to get new computers? Please reply because it's PISSING ME OFF!!!

Answer:
Probably because the people, including your parents, who pay school taxes don't want their taxes to go way up to pay for new computers.

Graduate, and get a really good job. Then donate the money to buy them. Most school barely have enough money to be open as it is.
if you live in the uk get everyone in your school to give in vouchers for free computers you get in supermarkets. i know in my school they spend 1.2million british pound a year on computers and Accessories on vouchers and funding form the government it is a Specialist in maths and computing collage.
Probably because they can't afford them. I used to run a community college lab with computers that were almost 10 years old. They were purchased with a grant that was one-time money and never renewed. We didn't even have enough money for paper by the end of the year, much less new computer. Blame the tea party guys who keep trying to lower taxes, which means less money for schools and other essential services. As for what you can do, there's not much. We used to joke about holding bake sales to buy new equipment.
First: You won't get far with profanity. Second: Approach your Parent Teacher Association or Parental Advisory Committee with a proposal that they fundraise for more RAM for the computers (assuming that new machines and new OS's are far too expensive for the budget.) More memory is the best bang for the buck in speeding the machines up on a restricted budget. Third: Suggest that the machines not be shut down, but just logged off between students. This will reduce loading time. Fourth: Inquire what the policy is for maintenance of the machines - deleting caches, defragging, reducing startup items etc. You probably do not have privileges to do anything, but the IT staff should have a maintenance schedule.
the school is on a budget and probably cant afford them. theres nothing YOU can do but buy your own laptop and work on that.
