How common is a pale optic disc?

How do I clean my hard disc when I have everything on an external disc yet it still shows my disc is 80% full?

  • I have run disc clean up, defragment, crap cleaner, and I have transferred all my files to an external hard disc, yet i still only have 20% space on my internal hard disc. Is there anything else I can do?

  • Answer:

    The easiest way, is to format the disc and start over with a clean install. You could go into the add/remove programs and remove programs you don't want, but everything leaves a trace in windows, which uses up space. So even after you uninstall it, parts of it will still be there. If you have a system restore disc, use that. It will allow you to do a complete format, and reinstall all software that was installed when you purchased the system. Another option, would be to just install a secondary drive. You can pick up a 1TB drive from newegg for $100. Then space wouldn't be an issue for you at all. :)

If you want to wipe the drive (you will lose EVERYTHING that is not backed up to an external drive) and get back to 100% free, go to My Computer, right click the hard drive and click format. If this is the drive windows is currently installed on, then you will need to get a program such as GParted and create a bootable disk, or you could re install windows and that would get rid of all the data if you format in the setup, then the disk would be clear minus your operating system.

download treesize free this will show you where all the space has gone on the hard drive then you can look for any redundant files.

Uninstall programs you dont want/need. and make sure that there nothing left in documents/music/downloads/etc... thats if you want to keep windows
