Software To Backup USB Drive?

How can I backup image onto USB/ FAT hard drive using Windows 7 starter?

• I would like to do a backup for a recently purchased netbook that does not have CD drive, nor do I have external CD drive. I do have external hard drive but because it is not NTFS Windows says I would need to format which I don't want to do as it has important data on it. Unofortunately the Windows 7 backup utility for some reason does not allow backup from a USB. Would you know of some other way, perhaps using 3rd party, ideally free or inexpensive, software? Is it possible to do image backup to another hard drive partion (not ideal but a temporary measure)?

  If the external drive is fat32 it should be possilt to update it to NTFS without losing anything.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb456984.aspx This however may then make it incompatible with other devises that can't handle NTFS. If you have another computer that you can make a network connection to it may be possible to backup to a network location.
