How to get my wireless internet on Ubuntu 9.10 to work?

My internet connection with Ubuntu 9.10 wont work. Please Help!!!!!?

  • I usually use a wireless linksys router.I couldnt figure out how to get the internet working wirelessly in ubuntue so i plugged a cable into the ethernet and just used that. The computer shows the connection but when i go to browse on firefox it just takes me to the Ubuntu homepage which explains "ubuntu philosophy". PLEASE help me figure out how to start browsing. The weird thing is used to always go to the google homepage and it worked just fine. But now it just says couldnt find the network. or starts me off on the ubuntu homepage.

Wireless issues are the most challenging part of ubuntu due to all the proprietart non standard interfaces. Start at http://ubuntuforums.org/ to try to resolve.

If it's just the wireless/browser being a pain and you can connect to the internet in _some_ form to do updates, do that first (System -> Administration -> Update Manager). Then check for wireless card drivers under System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers. This had ones that worked for both my Dell machines. If more than one driver shows up and you're not sure which to use or nothing shows up, I'd check the forums/resources other people have linked.
