How can i update iPod touch to 3.0?

My ipod touch won't update to iOS 4.2?

• i have an ipod touch i got it in December 2009 and before i used to update it but now i been trying to update it for about a year and it doesn't. i have version 3.1.3 on my ipod and i have the itunes version 10.4.1.10. so this is what i do: 1) i go to itunes and under "Devices" i click on my ipod. 2) i go under where it says "version" and i click update. 3) a box pops up saying "updating to iOS 4.2 will backup and restore the apps, media, contacts, calenders, notes and settings on your ipod touch." itunes will vertify the software update with Apple please do not interupt the update , which may take an hour or longer to complete". So i press update. 4) Then a box pops up saying "backing up my ipod"... and these green bars go across the box and on my ipod it says sync in progress. but the problem is that after about 30 mins of the box that says backing up ipod pops up. then the green bars just freeze and dont move again and i left it before for like 2 hours and nothing happens. PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM. THANK U VERY MUCH.

  go to help in itunes and hit check for update. if their is one, update itunes and try again, it should work. hope i helped!
