Copy my Itunes library?
-
Here is the situation: (1) I have a netbook with itunes installed (no CD Rom). I do have an external drive available though. (2) I have to reinstall my operating system from scratch (Windows XP) and will have to wipe my harddrive but don't want to lose all the CDs and purchased files I have installed on itunes. - Originally the CDs were copied to another computer then slowly through a usb memory stick transferred over to the netbook - it took a Long time to do. (3) I have two login profiles on the netbook; each with a different itunes library and each that I would like to keep after the re-installation of the operating system. (4) I do not just have music but also many podcasts, audiobooks and lectures from itunesU etc - I want to keep all of these after the re-installation of the operating system What I want to do is to work out how to transfer everything to the external drive. Then reinstall windows XP, download itunes and install it again then grab back all my podcasts, audiobooks and itunes U files from the external drive. I want to keep my playcounts etc if possible but the main issue is I wan to still have all my music and files once I reinstall windows. I am fine with installing windows and itunes just not sure how to keep all the media files What other details may help, as stated I am using Windows xp, also latest version of Itunes 9 and the external drive has more than enough room. I tried to use "File-> Library -> Back up to disk" but all I got was an error message saying "Disc burner or software not found" All help is greatly appreciated. (Why does Apple make this so hard - I would have thought I could copy and paste the folder across to the external drive then copy it back later on - but when I tried to do that a year ago I had to manually open up every music file, or in groups of 10 or so, for them to appear again in itunes. Now I have thousands of songs and this wouldn't be practically possible again) Please help
