Windows explorer stopped working in vista?

How can I stop Windows Explorer stopping working (in Vista) when I try to open a movie folder?

  • Okay, so I have a folder full of avi's and mpg's and wmv's, all movies and clips. Whenever I try to open it, within a split second an error message comes up saying "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and then it shuts down and restarts. The only way I can view the films is to search for the title using the Start menu search option, then load them that way. The thing is, there's a lot of movies in that folder and I can't remember them all and I'd like to browse them. Vista! Another problem with Vista! Good grief. If anyone can come up with a solution I will be immensely happy and grateful and I might even let you touch me in my special place. Thankyou peeps.

It does the same when you try to cut & paste anything from Microsoft Works into a Live email account. This new computer cost a fortune but is ruined by Vista and the way it doesn't work well with Internet Explorer. Vista is the best argument ever in favour of Linux.

i have had vista for two years never had that problem . has to be something with your computer. i play movies on mine all the time try putting your movies in your media player folder and open it through that might help

I would suggest you have a buffer overflow. Doze your explorer crash if you just hoover over the folder for a time ? If yes you have a buffer overflow. What was the last movie you put in the Folder, bet it was an avi . if so you need to remove it, use a file shredder if you can't delete it with windows. Wipe Soft do a free one just google it . Or you may have one with your security provider under tools Just thought of something ,if you very quickley change the view to a "list" there will be less information being displayed / prosessed. This may give you the time to sort thing's out . Should all else should fail download vlc player it comes with its own "independent" codex make it the default player. The player is crap but "it will stop the explorer crash". Then uninstall it. .

Dude you need to load them up on the search option and copy them all to the desktop. Something is corrupted with that folder that is causing Windows Explorer to shut down.
