What Is Private Browsing?

Is the private browsing for Safari on Mac's really private?

  • Is the private browsing for Safari on Mac's really private? I like to watch porn, but I don't want my brother knowing I'm watching porn. (we have a wireless router and I have a laptop) Can he see what I'm downloading or sites I'm visiting? Someone said something about a router log being able to detect the sites. What if I'm on private browsing? 1. Can he see the router logs, even if I'm private browsing? 2. Can he see the router logs period? Am I being paranoid How can I surf porn without anyone knowing? BTW, he doesn't have access to my comp and I have norton antivirus.

  • Answer:

First off, GET RID OF NORTON. Norton Antivirus for Mac is useless bloatware. Hell, anything Norton for Mac has been useless bloatware for the past decade. And unless the router is configured to log all sites, you have nothing to worry about.

i don't think anyone can see the router logs apart form the ISP all private browsing is, is not keeping a record of your cookies and history. pretty much you will be Alright, although i would suggest downloading Firefox. you can configure firefox to delete all the same things everytime it is quit. plus it's a damn site more fun than safari.

Just kick the habit. If you don't want your brother doing it, what makes it okay for you. But yes, private browsing on a mac does work. He could search the router log, but they are very hard to look at. Some routers don't even keep good logs of web usage. Just stop so you don't need to be paranoid.
