Why won't my computer let me download anything?

My computer wont let me download anything?

  • First off my internet explorer always fails whenever I try to download a file, so I started using google chrome to download files however a problem happened recently where I had to pick a program to open my downloads from and I accidently hit Internet Explorer (I have 9), and now my google chrome opens internet explorer when I try to download something and it won't download or open the file I want. Help, it's about impossible for me to download or open any file that isnt on a disk or already downloaded now!

    Well you can go into your control panel and choose the default programs section, in that you can change what program will run different files. Like you could change a picture so that it opens in Paint, or in Photoshop, or in Windows Photo Gallery. You should be able to go in there and change the default program for downloading. And maybe try redownloading IE9 might help your problem there.

Running 2 browsers you must have a dedicated default browser, I generally make it IE as it comes with the operating system, the other third party one deny as default to avoid confusion, they will also if you let them share add-ons. This doesn't affect the way you use then just avoids the confusion in the PC. If you watch then install they all ask the question "is this the default browser?" In IE >tools>internet options>programs, there is a box to un check "tell me if IE is not the default browser". Of course IE doesn't have to be the default, but if you running XP for arguments sake you will not get updates via a third party browser, but having IE 9 you will be on Vista or 7.
