Remote Desktop to Windows 2008 server?
-
Hi everyone, I am getting started on windows 2008 server. A new Dell Poweredge T110 II machine with 2008 windows server is on the way for me. But I am totally new to how hosting and networking works. My simple need is how can I set up 2008 server to have few of my team members remote desk top to this. We all work remotely with internet connection. And this machine is going to sit in my home. I spend a lot of looking at this but could find like step by step approach for this. Purpose of this machine is that my development team members will login and deploy code and we would like to test the application remotely with the deployed code. We can't afford a full blown network architecture here. Please give some guidance. Thanks Pugal

Answer:
First, if your coworkers are physically remote from you, you will need to make the Win2k8 Server visible on the internet. I need to know more about your internet setup to be able to give you better instructions for this. Next, on the Win2k8 Server, you need to start the remote desktop service. (Start -> Run -> (type) services.msi ) This brings up the list of services on the box. Find Remote Desktop and set it to Auto so it will start up when you boot the machine. You might want to also create some different accounts on the server so that each of you and your coworkers can login separately. (Start -> Control Panel -> Users & Passwords) That should be it. The Remote Desktop application should already be on your systems. Run this and type in the IP address of the Win2k8 Server. Use your username/password that you created. You will then see a "desktop" that is the Win2k8 Server as if you are using it directly.
