Can I update directly from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.10?

Can't download/install new items on Ubuntu ...can't update ubuntu?

  • tried to install Ubuntu and it seems to work okay but i can't download updates or download anything from the download center. tried terminal and can't download using dpkg it seems whenever i download anything from terminal using dpkg it stops at 55 % After this operation, 54.0 MB of additional disk space will be used. Do you want to continue [Y/n]? y Extracting templates from packages: 100% Selecting previously deselected package gnome-web-photo. (Reading database ... 55%dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting: reading files list for package 'linux-image-3.0.0-15-generic-pae': Input/output error E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2) any help would be appreciated

    I suspect that you might have some broken packages. I am not sure what the command with dpkg is but you can use Synaptic and click on fix broken packages or with apt-get or aptitude: sudo aptitude install -f or sudo apt-get install -f You might have to run that a few times if it does not fix all broken packages the first time.
