How to open winmail.dat file?

How to change how you open a file to default?

  • Alright, so I have a .bin file. I was told to unpack it, so I immediately change how it's opened to open with WinRAR. Then I discovered that .bin is a binary file (Which I completely overlooked when I was changing how it is opened), and WinRAR clearly wont be able to open a Binary file. So I figure Windows can easily run .bin without the help of any extension programs, but my only problem is I dont know how to change how the .bin file is opened back to it's default where Windows executes the files. I'd really appreciate help. Thanks guys.

  • Answer:

When you right-click on the icon, there should be an "Open with..." option. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you. Sorry.

Binary files are usually driver files associated with a specific device. A router's configuration is a .bin file. The firmware for a CD drive is a .bin file. Updates to a GPS device are usually .bin files. Care to share exactly what you're trying to do? Just having Windows open it is not going to help.
