How to burn music to cd-R using real-player?

DVD burning for dummies? MPEG's surely its not that simple?

  • A few things online i am a pro with...HTML and i just happened to earn a good living of working with music over a computer...but pretty much lost when it comes to everything else. Do you actually need a DVD burner? I say this because i can easily burn MPEG/ MPG's to a regular CDR as a dateCD using realplayer.... And it will play just right with no issues on my portable DVD players.....and i'm guessing if i just bought the right type regular DVD player that supporting MPEG's..... But surely it cant be that simple? I mean i've always heard you need a DVD burner.....and i understand the difference that makes... basically my question is again, it cant be that simple? And where can i find a lil more info on any of that?

  • Answer:

The advantage of a dvd over a cd is the larger storage capacity. Most probably you already know that a regular cd can store data up to 700mb only while regular dvd can hold up to 4.7gb of data. So, you'll actually need a dvd burner if you want to burn a data that's more than 700mb or in your case, an mpeg video that's more than 700mb. If you want to burn a video with longer duration and higher quality, then go for a dvd burner. Most probably, those mpeg videos you usually burn are not really long and maybe it's resolution is only at 320X240 or 640x480 and has low bitrate. In dvd, you can burn long videos with 720x480 resolution and higher bitrate. And using dvd authoring softwares such as nero vision, windows dvd maker, adobe premiere, xillsoft dvd maker, or cyberlink power producer, you can actually make dvd with flashy menus and all. For example, in my case, I have a collection of fansubbed episodes of the anime, Naruto. Using Nero Vision, I can burn in a single dvd 8 episodes of Naruto (each with video length of 23 minutes and 4 seconds, so that's a total of 184 minutes and 32seconds!) --- all in high quality: 720x480 resolution, video bit rate of 5760mbps, ac3 audio (5.1 channels dolby digital audio), audio bit rate of 480mbps --- with flashy menus and all. That's as good as a regular original DVD of your favorite movie. You can't do that using a regular cd only! We'll for more info, you can go here: http://www.videohelp.com/dvd Here's also a nice link for basic dvd authoring: On how to use Nero Vision http://www.digital-digest.com/articles/Nero_Vision_5_DVD_Authoring_Guide_page1.html On how to use Power Producer http://www.digital-digest.com/articles/Cyberlink_PowerProducer_DVD_Authoring_Guide_page1.html Here's a link to more links to other guides: http://www.videohelp.com/guides/category/how-to-author-a-basic-dvd-3;6#3;6 I'd say nero Vision is the most user friendly so I suggest you try Nero Vision first.
