What is the difference between ''Size" and "Size on Disk?

Increasing size of a NTFS "disk" with Windows 7 in VirtualBox (running under Linux)?

  • I run Windows 7 in VirtualBox under Linux. Sadly when I created the virtual computer, I made the "disk" (a file) too small. I was therefor wondering if there is a way to increase the size -- or the size-limit -- for the file pretending to be a disk? Is there a configuration I change in VirtualBox or a tool I can use to increase the size of the "disk"? The "disk" is formatted in NTFS... After increasing the size, must I somehow format the extra space? If so, how? Is it done automatically, not needed or must I use a special tool? Is the tool in VirtualBox, Windows 7 or some 3rd party tool? The whole point is to increase the size, without having to reformat and reinstall Windows...
