Is it possible to have a shared document page?

How can I get the 3rd page of a Microsoft 2010 document to be 'page 2'?

  • Ok for two of my university portfolio pieces for this semester I have to produce portfolios but on making this I am finding it difficult to make the 3rd page in the document page 2. To begin with I have inserted a cover page for my portfolio, thus this has no page number. The second page is to be a contents page so this also has to not include a page number. But the third page where my work begins I want this to be the first page which has page numbers on it, but I want this to be page 2. However I am struggling to get page numbers to work, everytime I try insert them in it puts the contents page as page number 1 and puts a number on the bottom of the page, so on the contents page it says '1'. But I don't want a number to appear on this and for the third page in the document (where I begin my work) to say the number 2 and the rest of the pages to increase from this, so 3, 4, 5, etc. How can I insert page numbers without having the front cover page or the contents page included in the total pages and for the third page to have the number 2?

  • Answer:

Click in your document at the end of the Contents page and then click on the Page Layout Tab. Click on Breaks and then Section Break Next Page. Double click in the header or footer where you want the page numbers. Click on the Design Tab and you should see Link To Previous highlighted. Click on Link To Previous to break the link between the section (header or footer depending upon where you double clicked). Now while still on the Design Tab click on Page Number. Select where you want the page number. Now click on Page Number again and click on Format Page Numbers, select Start At and enter 2 and click OK. You should now have the first two pages without page numbers and the third page with a page number of 2. The numbering will continue from there.
