Yes it will work if the previous owner uninstalled it from their computer. You would need to confirm this by contacting Microsoft 1-800-936-5700, provide them with the serial key code/license( good luck having the seller send that but it would be the only way to positively confirm the authenticity ) and ask them if this particular serial key is in use and/or valid for installation. Without this confirmation your intention to save some money can come back and bite you. In the end I suggest you save up for a student copy which will save you a good deal of money. This will also ensure a very long life, eternal in fact, of your copy of MS Office. You can also find OEM versions of MS Office which are tied to one motherboard and would probably not be a good idea if you are considering upgrading your pc within the time you are at the uni.

It should. However if it doesn't, call Microsoft on their support helpline (number should be on the box) and you could say "i formatted my system" and they will reactivate the license.

hard to say ... I would not go for some of those as they could be cheaper then buying it from the company (MS in this case), you never know if the license key in what your getting is valid or has been blocked due to "piracy" from MS... of course I did get a copy of MS office 2003 student ed. at a yard sale for a dollar (yes $1) and the official code that came with it is valid. I am not telling you to use these, but these are two free Ms Office alternative (no codes needed) they MAY suit your needs ... just saying as it can save you money no matter the price on ebay for MS office.. .I happen to like them better (not counting they are free) ANYWAY. Open Office - ( http://www.openoffice.org/ ) Libre Office - ( http://www.libreoffice.org/ ) like i said you'd be taking a chance with the ebay copy ... could be legit, but like with the one I purchased, I figured "hey if it doesn't work ... its only 1 dollar" -Xmetalfanx added: I also agree with the other posters that contacting MS with the number provided to you is a good idea too .. although by then you have already purchased it most likely ..

If I'm not mistaking I think that it can only be installed 3 times on 3 different computers, so that means that if you do buy this second hand product and It has been maxed then you'll be screwed...
