How to recover corrupted word document?

A Question about my word file that became corrupted all of a sudden!! PLEASE URGENT!!?

  • actually i made this ms word project file of mine and i saved it to the full many times to ensure it was all saved. then i opened and checked it also 1-2 times to make sure it was all saved. then after some time, i tried to open it again but it showed that there are problems with its contents and that the file is corrupted and cannot be opened. i clicked "ok" and then it says - "word found unreadable content in this file. do u want to recover the contents of this document?if u trust the sources of this document, click Yes" . then i clicked yes..and then the recovered file opened but it was only 2-3 pages(while i had 13-14 pages in my original file), and in some areas where i had put pictures,it says that the image maybe corrupted. I mean, i put great great efforts in making this file and now all of a sudden it all blanks out..so please help me?? how to recover the whole original file from what it says is corrupted now?? please help!! this file is of great great importance to me?? URGENT!!

  • Answer:

It's a longshot but you can try this. http://www.repairmyword.com/ Make a copy of the file to try the repair. That way you have the original in case it doesn't work and you want to try something else. If the above doesn't work, try Google. Put word file repair in the search box, or free word file repair.

set ur comp back to the date when u saved that file originally which u can do by going into control panel, hope it will help u.

I have seen this more than once in 15 years, across all versions, and the only answer is . . . you're hosed. Welcome to garbage programming known as MS Word. MS claims the problem doesn't exist. I know it does. And at various stages, do a "Save As" under a different file name, this is really the only workaround.

There are a couple of freeware recovery programs, but it really sounds like windows dropped the ball. You might also try downloading and installing open office (free linux program) you might be able to open it in that program. I put in a ton of work on something and had it "eaten" by MS word, still not sure why that happened, I now use Open office and have not had any problems with it. good luck.
