How do you deleted your AIM account?

Can you help me uninstall AIM?

  • Right now, I think someone hacked my AIM account? There have been some SN's popping up, the old ones that I deleted beucase my friends got new sn's. I tired deleting them but it jusy pops right back. IT also automtically added this random group "Bebo Friends" and I've tried deleting it but it just pops right back up. I even changed my password, and retstarted my comp but nothing has helped. I've never been to heyxd.com or omgxd.com because ive heard that they steal your password! SO, Ive decided to uninstall AIM, but everytime I uninstall it (NOT going to control panel - Add/Remove Programs) it completes the process but I can still open and load AIM and sign on..... I've tried it several times! Then, I tried going to Control Panel -- Add/REmove Programs BUT HALF OF MY ORIGINAL PROGRAMS ARE GONE?! Usually there are tons of programs, but there was only 20, and AIM wasn't on the list. Am I infected by any virus? ANy suggestions? Also, I've heard of running my computer into Safe Mode, but I forgot what button you click. Is it F11? Sorry for the long passage, I was so afriad it was the Conflicker or some sort :( Thanks in advance :)

  • Answer:

I suspect you have a virus. You can start safe mode by pressing F8 on start up and then selecting it. The first source link has more instructions on safe mode. Run a full virus scan with your anti-virus program while in safe mode. If any system files are corrupted, you should repair with your Windows operating system disk. Also, get Autoruns (second source link). You can use that to see a list of things that try to run on start up and prevent them. If you're not sure what something is, do a quick Google search. If it's not essential to running Windows, you can disable it safely. If the virus is really persistent, you may need to do a fresh re-install of Windows. This will delete all of your data, so make sure you back up anything important first. Don't back up programs if you can download them. Viruses usually attack programs first. Instructions for reinstalling Windows XP are in the third link. Good luck.

That's weird. Does someone else use your computer? What if you re-installed aim. I believe it will prompt you that it is already installed and ask if you want to remove the previous one. Here's a link to check your comp for malware: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=AD724AE0-E72D-4F54-9AB3-75B8EB148356&displaylang=en
