What is a good software to make music for free?

I am trying to make it in the music bussiness but i dont have alot of money to go spend for recording studio time to make beats i need a good free software that is downloaded off da net to make music.. that way i can just make my own beats then take it to the studio and save lots of studio hours.. please help the way the economy is it is HARD to find a job especially being 16
