Why isn't Windows Live/MSN working?

How do I format my laptops D drive with linux installed on it through comand prompt when windows isnt working?

  • My Acer laptop crashed about a week back. I had important data on the C drive so I installed linux operating system on the D drive and managed to get the data. Now when I try to bring the Acer erecovery page by pressing ALT+F10, it still goes on linux operating system. When I press F8 for additional boot options that also doesn't work. When I go on windows startup repair and enter into command prompt, it doesnot accept the command for formatting (format d:) instad it gives me an error 'the drive is locked'. Any suggestions as to how could i format my D drive and enter into the acer erecovery tool?

Format d: would work if Linux wasn't there... Where did you get your copy of Linux? Is it on cd? Most versions of Linux (Back Track is one of the easiest) will allow you to boot the OS from the cd and you could format the drive from there. If you have another computer, search for, download and burn a copy of "techy tools" or "the ultimate boot disk", both of which have HDD formatting tools. Another option is to get the utility from the HDD manufacturer to use, or if you have a Windows XP disk laying around you can boot from that and format that drive pretty easily from setup.
