How do I port my application to OS X?

Does anybody can describe the method of partitioning and installing OS and application like the OEM does?

  • Most of the Laptop and Desktop manufacturer customize HDD, OS and Application such a way that for any reason we need to reinstall OS, a hidden partition of the HDD (this partition can not be seen or accessed from My Computer) containing the image of the OS and application can do the job very quickly. It reduces the tame and hassle to reinstall the OS and Apps from the very beginning. I'm going to build a high-end desktop by my own Please inform me the way how I can make such hidden partition in my HDD to back up the image of OS and Application into that partition. What software I hae to use for that. It would be very nice if there is a web link where step-by-step description is available. If know that address please give the link. Thanks in advance. Zahid

  • Answer:

The tools the vendors use to repair the system from those restore partitions are usually proprietary, so I'm not aware of anything like them available to the consumer. Why waste the drive space on a recovery partition? Build the system, and before you begin customizing, create an image of the system partition burn it to a CD or DVD. There are ways to create bootable Windows optical disks (Google BartPE). You can create such a disk and use the image as a restore point.

All you need to do is make the partition, then right click on "My Computer" clicl manage ---- storage--- then Disk management ---- right click the drive you want --- properties ------ security ------ change the permissions. or Click the Windows "Start" button. Click "Run." In the command line, type "gpedit.msc" to open the group policy editor. Step 2Move your mouse down to "User Configuration" and click the "+" sign next to it. Click the "+" sign next to "Administration Template." Step 3Browse down to "Windows Components" and click the "+" next to it. Click on "Windows Explorer." Step 4Look for the line that says "Hide these specific drives in my computer" on the right side of the screen. Double-click ""Hide these specific drives in my computer." You can also right-click, then click "Properties." Step 5Select the box next to "Enabled." Click the arrow next to "Restrict All Drives" and select the drives you want to hide. Click "Apply." Click "OK." Click the red "X" in the top right corner to exit group policy editor. Step 6Double-click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop to make sure the drive is hidden. Step 7Check your personal firewall software for errors. If it pops up with a screen asking you to allow registry changes, click "Yes." or both then pup your back up files on it

This is what I've done... I've two 250 GB HDs.. I installed everything I need on the 1st one. I took the entire HD copy from 1st to 2nd(search online to get free tools to do that). When ever I install some thing new, I wait for few days. If the new stuff is not breaking any existing stuff I update my copy. If something goes wrong(say you over write few protected files, or HD failure), you can simply plug the backup and start working as if nothing happened... you can achieve same by having two partitions on seperate HDs and copy between partitions rather than physical Drives.. The first option(or creating images in DVDs) is also good, but the issue is that the root partition you'll have will not fit in to a DVS(it may on a blue ray). Which means you'll need multiple disks. But I'd still vote for this(ya I do something which is totally different from this :) ). you can make images at regular interval so that the restore you'll be making will have all the update for you OS as well as other tool( you don't want to spend hours updating everything whenever you restore your partition..).. kk

Zahid I do not know personally, but Windows is equipped with Help & Support to tackle issues such as yours. It should be located on your Start menu. Good Luck!

I don't think such hidden partition for OEM OS. You need to take OS Backup after you buy Laptop/PC. If anything got corrupt you can restore the backup which restores all device drivers and built-in OEM Software. Hope some OEM provides One Touch Restore option which has a dedicated key for the same. Once you press that you'll get the OEM Installed OS and drivers. Makes sense?
