How do you put a video from a video clip on Windows Movie Maker?

I can't put any footage into windows live movie maker without losing all visuals. How do I fix this?

  • Whenever i put a new clip into windows live movie maker the picture turns solid gray and in the timeline the clip has red exes on it. I already have many more clips in the video. What's going on and can I fix it?

  • Answer:

When the video track won't show, it's a sure sign of file type incompatibility. Your clip needs to be converted. I'm currently using iWisoft's free converter. It's one of the few freebies that doesn't try to install a toolbar and/or a search engine during installation. http://www.iwisoft.com/videoconverter/ Here's the written tutorial that shows how to use it. http://www.iwisoft.com/videoconverter/ Here's a screen capture I made yesterday to show another Asker how to use it. (Excuse my voice. Allergy season has started early this year.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gImScOxFcKY If you're not converting HD video, instead of the HD video option, use the "Common Video" choice. Everything else is the same as for the HD video conversion. The only slightly annoying thing about iWisoft's converter is that when you first open it, it looks for updates so your browser will pop up. I just close it and move on. iWisoft's converter is a good program and it's free so I don't mind having to click my browser closed.
