What Was The Best Tablet PC In 2012?

Do you think Windows 8 will dominate tablets, phones, and PC's?

  • Let me make clear right up front that Windows absolutely dominates the PC market. It seems like Apple is every where, but they only hold a fraction of the market (Microsoft holds 92% of the market as of 2/2012). With that said Apple of course is dominating the phone and tablet market, and slowly cutting into the PC market. With Windows 8 coming out next year and able to work on ARM processors as well as x86 processors, it will give Windows 8 the ability to run on essentially any device or platform. That means one uniform OS for everything. Personally, I'm very excited about that. So the question is do you think that Microsoft is going to be able to take some of that phone and tablet market with the same OS on all devices? My bet is yes and I think it will have to do with what HP/Palm was doing with Web OS before HP took a giant **** on it and ruined it last year. I think Windows 8 is going to give all devices the ability to communicate with each other with seemless ease. Phones to tablets, tablets to PC's, phones to PC's and tablets...I think you get the idea. My wife has a Iphone and a Ipad 2, and I think its ridiculous they can't communicate with each other. What are your thoughts.

IDK sorry

Whether Microsoft takes hold of the tablet market is going to strongly depend on what kind of devices their OEMs make. Microsoft has the software side down; I've been using the Windows 8 Consumer Preview and I like it a lot. But, OS is not enough. People want to have a sleek, cool-looking device. So, HP, Dell, Sony, Samsung, etc will have to get creative to make sleek Windows 8 tablets that will attract attention. I am pretty confident that at least HP will be able to do that; they have good designs. I think people will definitely give Windows 8 tablets a try, and I believe they will definitely give Android a lot of trouble; possibly dethrone Android from 2nd place in the tablet market. But, it is too early to say how much marketshare they will take from the iPad. Windows 8 on desktops and traditional computers, however, will still hold the large majority of the marketshare for NEW computers primarily because of the licensing deals Microsoft has with computer manufacturers. Every non-Apple (and non-Chrome) computer purchased in 2013 will feature Windows 8, so consumers will essentially be forced to start using it. Whether they will actually like it is another story, and this is why I capitalized the word 'new.' See, most people may decide that Windows 7 is good enough for them and they'd rather keep their 2-year old laptop and just buy a new tablet. This is the problem that Microsoft is trying to counter by developing the Metro UI for Windows 8 so that Windows can continue to be on the the new tablet market. Personally, I think that Windows 8 is not going to be successful on ARM processors, at least not initially. This is because you will not be able to run traditional x86 Windows software on an ARM version of Windows 8. The other problem is that Microsoft is trying to market the ARM version to the corporate market, and they are spicing it up by including a free metro version of Office in Windows 8 ARM. However, many in the enterprise have said that they have no interest for an ARM version of Windows 8. We see from history that if the enterprise is not interested in a Microsoft product, the consumers will not be either. The success of the ARM version depends highly on how many Metro apps are developed for Windows 8. For x86 processors, it will definitely help Windows Phone sales, and once more universities and offices start installing Windows 8, people will see the value of using their Microsoft Account as a login to sync all your documents and apps. But, that will take a long time since most institutions will likely hold onto Windows 7 for cost reasons. So, in conclusion, yes, I do believe that Windows 8 is the start of a new era of Windows, much like Windows 95 was the start of something new. How well it takes off will depend on how well Microsoft markets the OS, the quality of the design of Windows 8 tablets, and how many developers they get to make Metro apps. My personal prediction is that Windows 8 will be an average hit that won't push Microsoft to 1st place, but will pave the way for Windows 9 when Microsoft will actually resecure their dominance of the computer market.

It's supposed to be geared toward the tablet market. I haven't tried it yet and don't think I will. Not until the revues come out. I just hope they aren't stupid enough to forget there are tons of us using apps that won't work on tablets. As far as your wifes Apple products, they haven't communicated with anything else for the last 18 years. The reason is simple. Apple would rather control what people buy for apps and software. I'll take my freedom of choice. Windows opened their O.S. to run 3rd party software years ago. Apple still refuses. That is precisely why PCs out sell macs even today 95 to 5.

naw cause I already have IE 9 ... an wondering when 10 will come out an I think it already has
