How can I disable this Auto-brightness feature?

How do I disable an annoying feature in Windows regarding Programs?

  • Windows has a feature where it sometimes forcefully (and rudely) pops up windows/programs that are idle on your start menu or background as your primary window - usually when there are updates on that program (ie. My internet explorer suddenly pops up and becomes my primary window after logging into Yahoo Mail with Chat - even though I'm currently working on an excel file). This is very annoying and can interrupt any work I'm currently doing (ie. typing in excel and an IE window pops up which causes my keyboard presses to get entered into the address bar instead of my excel file). Is there anyway to disable these annoying interruptions? I know this is probably intended to get your attention but it's very counterproductive. Any help would be appreciated.
