How to Convert Json date string to more readable date format?

How do you convert the date to DD/MM/YY format in Microsoft Excel?

  • I need to convert the cells to accept the date in this format: Day/Month/Year. I have accomplished this by doing a number of things: 1) ...by creating a Custom number type (DD/MM/YY) in the "Format Cells" option 2) ...by changing the location from US to another country, such as UK or France 3) ...by changing the date format to D/M/Y in the "Text to Columns" section under the Data Tab. HOWEVER, while ALL of these work, they are not consistent. The program rearranges them once new data is entered. Very frustrating. I need to know how to DIRECTLY enter the date February 1, 2003, for example, as 01/02/03. Each time I do this, Excel immediately changes it to 02/01/03 unless I format each individual cell as the information is entered. Can someone please help? Thanks. :)

  • Answer:

Goto Format Date and select Locale (English United Kingdom) and display type dd/mm/yyyy Then just enter the date as you would normally (I gather you are in the US) ie mm/dd//yyyy. The display will change to the UK display but you can work with your own region convention.

I believe that the default date format is taken from the Regional Setting of the operating system, the setting for which you will find in Control Panel>>Regional and Language Settings otherwise you have to format the cells as you have already done individually or as a block using the 'Format Cells.'

Format the cells with the DATE options selecting the one you want. You may have to change from the default language to enable the right options. This worked in Excel when I had it and also works in Open Office.

Try Ctrl "A" and then Format cells... If you "paste" in the data, that might be why this is happening, try "paste special" "unformatted text" that should work. Hope this helps.. Take your mouse and highlight the row or column of where your date will be. - right click - Format cells - Number - Date - look right and choose what way you want the date (DD/MM/YY) If the format you want is not there, - right click - Format cells - Custom - look right and under the "type:" enter DD/MM/YY
