How do I install Windows 98 and Linux Ubuntu on Virtual PC 2007?

I am having Trouble with Win 98 and Linux Ubuntu on Microsfoit. Windows 98 i get as far as a blue screen that says "Preparing to install Windows 98..." And with Ubuntu i get as far as Click install, see blinking underscore, see ubutu logo with a buffering animation(like on youtube but in a strait line), then black screen. How do i install these 2 operating systems on virtual PC?

I did not understand if your host (basic) computer is Windows or Linux. It will be easier to install windows on VirtualBox on Ubuntu host (basic) machine, than other way round.
